Each year, over 15,000 children escape domestic abuse to find safety in women’s refuges, often arriving with nothing but the clothes they wear. Many of these children have either witnessed or endured physical, emotional, and sexual abuse. According to the Birmingham Crisis Centre, more than 50% have experienced sexual abuse, with an alarming 70% of those cases involving their fathers. These children are deeply traumatized and require urgent ‘crisis recovery’ support, which is a crucial first step on their journey toward healing. Our mission goes beyond providing basic support; we strive to equip every child in refuge with coping strategies to help them avoid relying on alcohol and drugs as a means of escape, taking one gentle step at a time. With hundreds of therapeutic sessions planned for this year, our dedication is evident, but the demand for assistance is vast. Every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant impact.
